TCM Physician Tan Lee Kee of Ying Chuan Chinese Medical Hall in Jurong

I was growing increasingly impatient with Dr Tan Kian Sing for reasons stated below.

  • Once again, just like Dr Ang Mui Choo's prescription, I experienced no improvement in my health and cycles. I was still ovulating late and my BBTs were not ideal.
  • It was dubious that the prescription would be the same for every woman. I thought the best part of TCM was that the doctor could prescribe individual medication according to the body's constitution?
  • I got increasingly uneasy over eating tablets that were unnamed, let alone regulated. I was okay with eating herbs but I really had no trust in those tablets.
  • Dr Tan's prediction of my ovulation was not very accurate.
  • I hated the long waiting time at the waiting area.
  • I disliked sachets of powdered instant herbs mixture. They were awful to drink to the point of gagging at times. I also read bad reviews of instant herbs mixture online. Furthermore, those sachets were made in China and recently, there were so much bad press about China products.
  • Most importantly, I read online that Dr Tan was more effective for treating male patients with deficiency in their sperm.
One day, my husband told me that his colleague told him that his friend got pregnant by visiting this very famous TCM physician in Jurong. This physician does not have appointment slots. It is a first come first serve policy. People would go there as early as 6am just to get a queue number to see her. She is the ever famous Dr Tan Lee Kee of Ying Chuan Medical Hall. I also heard that she could diagnosed the problems based on the first consultation and by taking your pulse. Wow, so amazing.

Therefore, I called the medical hall as it was my early day off work. It was around 2pm and the receptionist told me that I should go down because the queue was not long that day. Out of curiosity, I drove to Ying Chuan Medical Hall and saw a huge statue inside the place. I took a queue number and true to her word, the queue was not long. I saw her after waiting for only 30 minutes.

I tried to hide my shock when I saw her. I was imagining her to be old wise looking. What was presented before my eyes was a very young woman, in her thirties, and wore heavy make-up for a TCM physician. She put on bright orange lipstick, tied her hair up in a pony tail and had bright shining eyes enhanced with eyeshadows. She looked so unconvincing as a TCM physician that I needed to stifle my giggles.

I briefly told her my history and she took my pulse. After taking my pulse, she scribbled furiously on a slip of paper.

"I suspect you have PCO and Adenomyosis ," the young doctor said in a matter of fact tone, "and this is the reason why you kept miscarrying."

My heart sank. I thought having irregular cycles was bad news and now what was that medical term? Adenomyosis? I asked her what it was and she explained that it was bloated uterus.

I asked her what I should do and she started to scribble again.

"Go and see this gynae, Dr Christopher Chen in Gleneagles," she ordered as she passed me the slip of paper, "and remember to pass him this paper."

The paper had the diagnosis that she had scribbled earlier. I told her I had seen Dr Adrian Tan, Dr LC Cheng and Dr Henry Cheng. She started to give her reviews on the doctors. She commented that Dr Adrian was a very normal gynae; Dr LC Cheng was a good fertility specialist; Dr Henry Cheng was humorous and a good gynae. She told me that I could choose between Dr LC Cheng and Dr Henry Cheng if I had normal pregnancies. But she insisted that I visit Dr Christopher Chen for my examination because she said that he was one of the pioneers in dealing with infertility issues and that he was very skilful in examining women. She also went on to say that she would not accept me as her patient unless I see him and she could confirm her suspicions that I had Adenomyosis.

I was desperate for any solutions. Although it was a very weird experience at Ying Chuan, I called up Dr Christopher Chen's clinic that very day and was so surprised that they still had a slot for me. It was already 4 plus and they told me that I could go over and my appointment would be at 5.30pm. I was surprised to find out that his clinic closed at 11pm. That sounded very late for a private clinic.

  6. lol she doesn't not look in her 30s at all. more like 50s trying to look 30 >.<

I saw her abt 4 years ago, same thing asked me to go see Dr Christopher Chen. asked me to get check up and I told her I was gonna go nuh already, and she started making a few gynea names there. Only useful thing I got was the ovulation kit, which I didn't know at the beginning of my TTC journey.

I think her reputation has gone down the drain. no more queue these days.
