Dr Tan Kian Sing - 2nd TCM physician

I have been visiting TCM ever since my first miscarriage if you have been following my previous posts. Recently I changed to Dr Tan Kian Sing in Clementi as my colleague was also under him. I goggled him and discovered that he was a famous fertility TCM specialist.

My hubby and I went to see him. His clinic was very small but clean and modern looking. His waiting time was also around 1 hour. He looked very fatherly. The first thing he asked us to do was to go for a hormone tests for me and a sperm analysis test for my husband. His clinic had a tie up with Raffles Medical clinic which were some shops away from his shop so it was quite convenient for me to have my blood drawn. My husband had to go to Novena to have his sperm checked. He told me that he went into a cubicle with pornographic videos and magazines to masterbate.

The results are out! His sperm was deemed to be in a very good condition and Dr Tan said that he did not need to see him at all. He was so healthy that the doc did not want to see him. Strangely, I was very sad. You might feel that I should rejoice over the good news. I secretly wished that we could share the blame together. Anyway he knew my secret wishes. I did not want to hide any feelings from him. Hidden feelings are often the seeds to bitterness and eventually a divorce. As for me, my results were also normal but he felt that more could be done to optimise my chances of conception.

Basically Dr Tan's advice to every woman was the same.
Before ovulation, eat a bottle of black medicine that looks like cough mixture and a pack of pink pills. It was solely based on trust that we consumed the weird pills! Nothing was written on the medication except when to consume. He would also do electro acupuncture which was something that I found quite enjoyable. He was not as rough as Dr Ang Mui Choo so his acupuncture sessions were bearable. The electric current was not painful.

The most amazing thing was when he used his hands and felt my abdomen to see which stage my eggs were at. He said that when the egg is about to mature, it is as big as a small fishball around 2 cm! When he felt that it was nearer to ovulation based on his examination, he would ask me to pee on the stick to check at home. I had to use the third urine of the day in order to be accurate. I would also have to eat Bai Feng Wan (herb) and a different type of concoction.

After ovulation, I have to eat An Tai Yao (Calm Baby Medication) for 14 days. There were part 1 and part 2 medication. I told him that I did not want to get pregnant yet and so why I had to eat the An Tai Yao. He explained that was only a name. It was to tiao (heal) the body after ovulation. When the stick indicates that you are ovulating, you will need to have intercourse for three days. On the third day, switch medication to An Tai Yao part 1.

I overheard the conversation between the nurse and the patients. It was the same advice! I presume it is standard package for everyone! His charges were more expensive than Dr Ang Mui Choo's and when he did the acupuncture, he would pull the bottom until it was so low that your pubic hair might be exposed. If you did not want to expose, you better shave.
