How to brew herbal TCM - Traditional Chinese Medicine conveniently to boost fertility?

Today I had staff bonding at USS. The rides were average since I had gone there four times. The company was good because I had some laughs. Did I just say that? Do I mean that my colleagues are clowns? No lah. I enjoyed the company. One of my colleagues was a very hardworking gal with a heart pure as snow and kind as a samaritan. But she has gone through two failed IVF cycles because she could not produce any good eggs. Her ovarian reserve is poor and her gynae says that she sort of has an early menopause. She is only in her very early thirties! Why kind and nice people like her have to endure such a terrible diagnosis? She has not given up. She is visiting Tong Chai and will do her third cycle soon.

I am so shagged now. Luckily today don't need to do homework. Anyway, recently, I thought of a very funny idea. I told my hub that I have decided to play the role of dead fish. Wah, this role very good leh - just lie there. Surprisingly, he thinks it is very shiok. I secretly think that maybe because when you are dead fish, the vagina is not as moist and therefore tighter. Oh gosh, why am I straying from the topic?

After a shagged day at USS, I reached home around 8 plus and decided I had to cook my TSB brand of TCM because I have rested more than three days. Over time, I kind of decide when to eat instead of following strictly to the instructions since she has told me before that if I feel sick or heaty, I should not consume but wait. Ever since, I have been using this as an excuse not to brew the medicine. Since I am still waiting for the second round brewing, I shall post something on brewing TCM.

I have always been wanting to post this! Because I had such a hard time and I would not want you to suffer the same fate hahaha. Initially when I was first introduced to brewing herbal medicine, I used the traditional clay pot and had to keep watching the fire. After I had gone to TSB clinic, I realised that there is an electric option. I found out about the electronic option online through some forum chat before I decided to visit TSB. So, I asked the staff about the legendary electric pot to brew the medicine. It was this pot that made me feel that visiting TSB is sustainable - once a month visitation; brew medicine once every 4 days.

Let me do a proper introduction of The TSB Clinic TCM. The clinic would seal the herbs and it was only after visiting her for half a year before the man in charge of sorting out the herbs, informed me that the herbs would be fresher and more effective if store them in the FRIDGE. Damn lah, now then say! Okay, better late than never.

Herbs sealed
Place all the herbs into the pot and pour THREE rice bowls of tap water into the pot. The idea is for the water to cover the herbs. I would then have to SOAK it for 20 minutes. I bought a timer from DAISO and it was every effective. It would beep to alert me that it is time to brew. Because it is a electric pot, all I have to do is to switch on the power. Make sure that the switch on the pot is pressed down on the FAST mode.
Push the herbs to the sides
When the switch is on and it is in fast mode, it will show a red light.
Because it is electric, I do not have to watch the fire. I watch TV instead. After about an hour fifteen min, it would start beeping to alert me that it is done. I would SWITCH OFF the power and pour the black medicine into a big bowl. I measured it before and amazingly, it is exactly ONE rice bowl of medicine. The idea is to cook three bowls of water to one bowl and it is considered done.

A green light and a beeping sound would indicate that the medicine is ready.
There was once I was lazy. After beeping, I continued to watch TV. The medicine dried up. Do make sure you remove the medicine as soon as it beeps.

How the medicine looks like after the first brew has been poured out.

How the medicine looks like after the first brew
After the first brew, I have to open the lid to cool the pot. This step is very crucial. If I am impatient and start pouring another three bowls of tap water into a very hot pot, the pot would crack! This is how I kept cracking my pots. I changed two pots because of my impatience. Each pot costs S$100plus. The pot that I am using now is the third one.

After cooling the pot for about 15 minute or so, I have to repeat the steps for the second brew. This time round, I do not need to soak the herbs. Once the second brew is done, pour it into the bowl containing the first brew to mix it. Then, use a ladle and scoop out one rice bowl of medicine to be drunk immediately.

The remaining medicine would be stored in the fridge to be consumed the next day. How to reheat the  cold medicine the next day? Very easy! Transfer the medicine into a cup. Pour boiling water into a big bowl. Place the cup of medicine in the bowl and voila, after a while, it would be warm!

One word of caution, the medicine was advised to be drank around 10pm. After 8pm, we are not supposed to consume any food. I always cheat. I might eat beyond 8 and pushed back my medicine consumption time.

With this pot, it has made my journey slightly more bearable.

My second brew is still not ready! My eyeslids are heavy. My heart is heavy. Today is Day 17 and my temperature dipped to 36.25 - meaning that I have not ovulated. So sad...

  1. What a fantastic post on herbal TCM! I loved reading this. I am so impressed with the TCM techniques. For my leg pain treatment I would definitely visit a domestic TCM Mississauga center. Anyway, thanks for this post.
