Tips for getting pregnant fast
Over the past two years, I have evolved from a fertility noob to a fertility expert in terms of knowledge. To save you time, I have decided to summarise all that I have found out from friends and online. I know some of you are as hungry for information as I once did because the doctor's advice seemed so stingy.
Fertility Food
My friend who has a blocked tube and had a cyst removed and also suffering from anovulation (no ovulation occurring but her period still came) is celebrating her daughter's first birthday next month. As mentioned in my previous post, she managed to conceive on her third attempt on clomid under Dr SF Loh. During her third attempt, she heard from her friend who managed to conceive by eating ROYAL JELLY - a superfood for boosting fertility. During my third failed pregnancy, I managed to get a positive by eating royal jelly too.
My colleague who was scheduled to have surgery on her tubes but she decided to visit TCM physician Tan Siew Lan and not do the surgery. Through eating HERBS, she conceived a son and he is already Primary 5.
Vitamins
My friend managed to conceive soon after her honeymoon. She was a very conscientious person who started on FOLIC ACID three months before her intention to conceive. This is the only tip that is confirmed by all gynaecologists.
Positions
Missionary is the common position that is recommended for conception.
One of my colleague shared with me her tip of cycling her legs in the air for 15 minutes after intercourse. I tried that for all three failed pregnancies. I also propped my buttocks on a small pillow and this is suggested by Dr Tan Kian Sing. I watched a channel 8 show whereby the local celebrities Quan Yi Feng advised Huang Shu Fang to lift her legs up after intercourse. One of my close friends who always conceives successfully shared that she doesn't get up to wash the sperm off her vagina. She just stayed in bed until the next morning.
BBT
BBT charting is the basic foundation of visiting Traditional Chinese Medicine. I managed to conceive and have a positive through doing intercourse by observing the temperatures despite the fact that I have PCO. Many patients who went to consult TCM conceive through this method.
White discharge
My male colleague told us that his wife swore by this method. They have two beautiful children. Every month, there would come a time whereby the female's discharge changes from creamy to a transparent stretchy form. The transparent stretchy discharge indicates that you are fertile and about to ovulate so you should be having intercourse.
Medical procedures
My church friend's husband suffers from sperm deficiency. They TCM for a while and gave up because it was too tedious. They also consulted a few doctors and finally settled on Dr Ann Tan. On their third try of IUI, she managed to conceive and she is in her third trimester now. IUI means going through a simple procedure to deposit the sperm in the woman's body. Our pastor, a known prophet, has prophercised over them that they would be able to conceive. For us, he told us that we would be able to have children if we believe.
After a year of trying for children, it is recommended that you visit a fertility specialist to do a thorough check up. Please visit a fertility specialist and not a normal gynae. A normal gynae usually does normal pregnancies and they do not give sufficient support to couples on infertility journey.
Cultural or religious beliefs
Some of my friends told me to carry newborns because they swore by it that newborns bring luck and they too managed to conceive by carrying newborns.
Some older folks are very serious about not moving the marital bed. My mother-in-law commented that it could be the moving of my marital bed that affected certain spirit in the womb as we moved the bed a few times to avoid the sunlight shining into the room.
Another colleague who was trying for a second child for close to a year attributed her pregnancy to a child's sincere prayer of faith. Her elder daughter around 4, on seeing her mother's tummy asked her mother whether there was a baby inside. Her mother replied no and that she was just fat. She also asked her daughter to pray for her since she wanted a sister. Her 4 year old daughter put her hands on my colleague's stomach and prayed with all earnest, "Dear God, please put a baby inside my Mummy's stomach. In Jesus's name, amen". The next month, she conceived and she has since delivered a girl.
Very regular intercourse
My friend faithfully had intercourse with her husband three times a week for three months. This was how she conceived her two gals.
Overseas trip
Many babies are made on vacation trips. Many friends have tried and it worked.
Things to avoid
My close friend's colleague has been trying conceive but failed. She has the habit of eating raw salad every day for lunch. Her older colleague told her to give up her salad as the Chinese has a belief that too much "cold" food is not good for conception. She really gave up her salads and she did conceive a girl.
The next thing to avoid is a common knowledge which is caffeine. Dr Tan Siew Buoy commented that a cup a day is fine. She also advised me to cut down on raw food. Cold drinks is a definite no no.
During the course of trying to conceive, I have a friend who is very careful even if she is not confirmed pregnant. She would avoid roller coaster and lifting heavy items.
Avoid getting up after sexual intercourse as gravity doesn't help the sperms to swim.
Irony
Fertility journey is a very conflicting one for couples who are having challenges. Today I went for a church wedding. I saw quite a few of my husband's friends in my age group minding their young kids. We are definitely the minority with no kids. On one hand, I feel so happy to see the cute kids and on the other hand, my heart ache with both desire and despair. It is so ironic that some couples have it so smoothly while others, the journey is a constant test of faith. I was telling my husband that perhaps everything is a blessing in disguise. I told him jokingly that our fertility problem is so huge that it makes the other problems like differences in living habits so small so small. Some couples who have smooth journeys in fertility have their day to day problems like living habits and personality differences magnified out of proportion.
Oh well... I was just making a pathetic attempt to mask my sour grapes :( and a desperate attempt to sound optimistic.
Because of this, I truly understand why the bible says children are gifts from heaven.
Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

ReplyDeleteIt increases the possibility of having sex on your most fertile days. If you're only aiming for ovulation, and you make a mistake, you may totally lose that month. If you have sex every other day or every two days, you're likely to have sex at least once, if not twice, during your most fertile time.
